

Susie Frances Carter, 100, of Tallahassee, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at her home. The baby child of the late Cleveland and Phoebe Thompson, she was born on August 15, 1915 in Tallahassee. She grew up in old Tallahassee and has had the opportunity to witness a century of change. She attended the public school system in Leon county and received her diploma from Lively.
Susie was a founding member of the Immanuel Baptist church of Tallahassee where she faithfully attended until her health would no longer allow. She was a proud member of the original Winsome Sunday School Class and enjoyed the reunions over the years. Susie enjoyed southern living and was known as “Good Southern Lady”. She could often be found working in the yard, sewing and cooking. She took pride in her home and in her family.
Along with her parents, Susie was proceeded in death by her husband of 25 years; Paul Curtis Carter and her sisters, Ethel Wilder and Phoebe E. Thompson. She is survived by her daughters, Marie Carter, Ann Miller and Pauline Spooner (Wayne); grandchildren, Curt Metcalf, Janet Smith, Joan Elliott, Scott Morgan and Richard Spooner; her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Clint, Jasmin, Jaiden, Kara, Erica, Katie and Anna.
The family will receive friends at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel, beginning at 10am on Friday October 30th and the service will follow at 11. There will be a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
