Teresa W. Dowdy

On August 14, 2025, our beloved Teresa Winkler Dowdy peacefully passed away at the age of 65, in Tallahassee, Florida. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we celebrate a life that was full of love, generosity, and purpose. 

Teresa, born on March 23, 1960, in Tallahassee, FL, brought light and joy to all who knew her. She married her lifelong sweetheart, Richard Dowdy, in 1981, and together they cherished a marriage of 43 years. They built a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful memories while raising two daughters “curly’s”.

Her days were marked by beach living, adventures around the world, spending time with friends, family, Red Hills Church members, tending to her beautiful home and garden, reading books, and selflessly volunteering her time toward church outreach programs and to Humble House Ministries. Teresa’s warmth and kindness touched everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression of faith and compassion.

She is survived by her husband, H. Richard Dowdy; her daughters, Kristin Anderson (Jeff) and Jennifer Lewis (Jason); grandchildren, Elyse Anderson, Chance Anderson, Lyla Anderson, Samuel Lewis; her sister-in-law, Amy D. McClellan (Jeff) along with dearly loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Loyce Winkler; sister, Melanie Peck; and grandson, Mathis Lewis. 

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Teresa's life will be held on Monday, August 25, at Tallahassee Heights Methodist Church located at 3004 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32308. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. The family invites you to join them for refreshments and fellowship following the service.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who provided meals, shared their love, support, and prayers during the difficult time. 

Teresa's legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
