

Tom was born in Green Bank, West Virginia to the late Lyle and Marie Shifflett (nee Newton) of Brooklyn, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Victoria Shifflett (nee DeGuilio) married 40 years prior to her death. He is survived by daughter Mary Bowen her husband Floyd Bowen (aka Chip), and his late son Thomas Dale Shifflett Jr., He Is also survived by granddaughter Heather Bowen Ferguson and her husband Matt Ferguson, grandson Bradley Bowen and great-granddaughter Kendall Bowen of Maryland.
Tom was the eldest of six children and is survived by sisters Mary Ann Perdue, Nancy Porter, and Betty Greer. Preceded in death by one brother Gerald Shifflett and sister Judith Ballinger.
As a young man after graduation from Brooklyn High School Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force. A military service will be held at the burial site with flag ceremony in honor of his service to his country. After serving four years was honorably discharged. Tom returned to Cleveland where he met and married Vicki. Tom moved his family to Vero Beach, Florida in the 60’s and from there to Tallahassee in 1975 where he worked for the State of Florida Game and Fish Commission for many years prior to his retirement.
In retirement, and in excellent health most of his life, it allowed him to do the things he loved to do most. Tom was very active well into his late 80’s, he traveled, played golf, expanded his knowledge of family genealogy, and spent time with his most loved family and friends. Tom was passionately interested in his roots and family history. He had the opportunity to travel to England and Ireland and play golf at the renowned Ballybunion Golf Club. He loved traveling and spent time with his many uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Florida, West Virginia, Virginia, and Ohio. Family was especially important to Tom and he always made sure everyone was cared for and looked after. He truly was the head of this large and expanded family. He will be undeniably missed and because of his love for Ireland, March 17th 2023 will be remembered as Tom’s choice to go. He passed quietly and with humility as a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him.
