Velma T. Lawson went to be with her Lord on October 1, 2026. She was at home after battling cancer and was surrounded by friends and family the last week of her life here on earth. Velma was born August 21, 1932 in Fairmont, NC. She graduated with a nursing degree in Columbia South Carolina where she met the love of her life, Charles H Lawson from Starke Florida. They were married December 17, 1955 and were married almost 66 years before Col. Charles Lawson went to be with his Lord.
Velma lived her entire life in service to her Lord Jesus as well as serving others through teaching and participating in Bible studies, her prayer group, serving youth and college students on many mission trips as a chaperone, cook, and nurse. She and Charles served faithfully at First Baptist Church, Tallahassee in various roles and ministry projects and also served for many years as volunteers with various mission organizations around the country and the world as well as with the Bill Glass Prison Crusades and Ministry. One of the highlights of their retirement was also getting to volunteer at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ridgecrest NC. They loved their time in the mountains volunteering in various roles.
Velma was a retired nurse from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where she worked nearly 30 years. After retirement, she volunteered at the hospital in several areas and loved being a volunteer in her later years at the TMH Cancer Center.

A favorite quote that all her children and grandchildren remember is, "Only one life, will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last". She lived it to the fullest and although we will miss the gatherings at her house, we know she is living her best life and has finally "made it home".
