Daughter of Rev. & Mrs. Earl Mattson she was born in Denver, CO, July 10, 1936. She attended elementary school in South Bend, IN and high school in Chicago, IL and Long Island City, NY. She graduated from Wagner Lutheran College in Staten Island, NY in 1958 with a degree in elementary education. After graduation, she married Dr. Francis J Corgan and enjoyed teaching 3rd grade at St. John’s Lutheran school before her children were born. In April 1966, Francis and Vivian moved to Ft. Benning, GA where they enjoyed military life. In 1968, they returned to Staten Island where they lived, before moving to Holmdel, NJ in 1971 where they raised their family. After Francis became ill, they moved to Tallahassee, FL in 1999.
Vivian was an elder at Tower Hill Presbyterian Church, in Red Bank, NJ, sang in several church choirs, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Kid’s Club. Upon moving to Tallahassee, she became a member of Questers, The Killearn Ladies Club, was a docent at the Governor’s Mansion and enjoyed attending Lunch Bunch of Faith Presbyterian Church where she was a member. She also volunteered at Goodwood Museum & Gardens.
Vivian was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband and her daughter,
Dr. Kristin R. Corgan. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Weeden and husband, David of Tallahassee; son, James Corgan and wife, Debby of Winthrop, Maine; and son, Timothy Corgan of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Dr. Christopher Weeden and wife, Carley of Atlanta, GA, Emily Weeden of Tampa, FL, Madison Corgan, Jayce Corgan, Caroline Corgan and Samuel Corgan, all of Winthrop, Maine. In keeping with her wishes, no formal services will be held. The family will hold a private graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church or to the Tunnel to Tower Foundation, honoring those that lost their lives on 9/11.
