William Heard

Bill is survived by his son, David Heard, of Buda, Texas; his son, Marc Heard, of Houston, Texas; and his daughter, Susan Heard Shearman, of Fort Myers, Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Thomas Heard, Sarah Heard Abuzaid, Kelsey Shearman Stanton, Brendan Shearman, and great-grandchildren Silas Abuzaid and Vayda Abuzaid. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Zehr Heard and his grandson, Sean Shearman.

Bill, affectionally called Boo Boo by his grandchildren, was born on March 4, 1935 in Grand Haven, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a PhD in Zoology. He moved to Tallahassee in 1962 after accepting a position at Florida State University. He was an active faculty member in the Biology Department at FSU for 38 years and emeritus for an additional 21 years.
