William graduated from Franklin High School and received his Bachelor's and Master's in Education from Florida State University. He spent his entire teaching career in the Leon County School System.
He was a member of the Marzuq Lodge in Tallahassee and a 50 year member of the Kittatinny Lodge in Branchville, N.J. While a shriner, he regularly transported ill children to their hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was also an avid wood worker and craftsman.
William is survived by his wife, Joan of 67 years; children, Robert May of Orlando, Florida and Brenda O'Neill of Dawsonville, Georgia; his grandchildren, Megan May of Las Vegas, Nevada., Tanner May of Jacksonville, Florida; Zack O'Neill of Dickson, Tennessee; Katie Couch of Dawsonville, Georgia; Meredith O'Neill of Dawsonville, Georgia; Lindsay Parker of Ballground, Georgia, and Ryan Johnson of Woodstock, Georgia. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee.
