Anthony Alexander Collins was granted his angel wings on Thursday, September 10, at his home in Tamarac, Florida. In his final days, Anthony was lovingly surrounded by his wife, children, family, and friends.
Anthony was born on August 25, 1965, in Kingston, Jamaica. He attended St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) in Kingston before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering Management from the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).
In 1999, Anthony migrated to the United States and settled in Florida in 2001. A lifelong learner who was committed to personal and professional growth, he continued his education at Florida International University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to obtain his Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in the State of Florida and earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Despite an already distinguished career in public service, Anthony continued his academic journey and earned a Master of Science degree in Management and Leadership in 2024.
Anthony was a dedicated lifelong civil servant who believed deeply in doing work that positively impacted the communities he served. His career in Jamaica included service with the National Land Agency, Sugar Industry Housing, and the National Housing Trust. After settling in Florida, he built an extensive career in local government, serving with Broward County Parks and Recreation, the City of Palm Bay in Brevard County, the City of Fort Lauderdale, and, on two occasions, the City of Miramar. Most recently, Anthony served as the Director of Public Works for the City of Miramar.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Anthony will be remembered for the warmth, generosity, and joy he brought to the lives of those around him. He cherished spending time with his family, traveling, and enjoying sports—especially basketball. Having played basketball in high school, Anthony later volunteered as a coach and remained a devoted Miami Heat fan.
Anthony also had a genuine love for cooking and baking. He took great pleasure in preparing a variety of dishes for family and friends, often bringing people together around the table. His love of food, family, learning, and service reflected the generous spirit with which he lived his life.
Anthony leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Thelma Brown; his beloved wife, Sandra Wright-Collins; his sister, Barbara; his children, Sunil, Kadeem and Chez; grandchildren Jasper, Zander and Amari; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Basil.
Anthony leaves behind a legacy of service, perseverance, lifelong learning, love of family, and commitment to community. His life touched many, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
