Barbara i am so thankful i was able to spend your last week of  your life with you. we were able to play scrabble and cards.i will cherish the count less hours we spent together on saturday night as we both cried and you sat in my lap telling me you wanted to go to heaven.and then we layed in your bed and held hands till you fell asleep.i then went in to your leaving room and wrote you a 2 page note.we woke up easter sunday morning went to church with billy and diana we came home from church and there you were sitting out side looking beautiful in you favorite blue dress.i told you that you looked beautiful.i then went upstairs to pack up because we had to get back on the road to head home to ny.when we packed up the car we took some pictures and then i handed you a note and i said to you god loves you and please reconnect with god and remember what we talked about on saturday night. you then said to me yes.i then put the note in to your hand and told you to read it when we leave you.i turned around and looked back at you and i know that you had reconnected with god and you found peace.you had the most beautiful smile on your face as if you knew what i wrote in the note to you. thank you so much for the 3 hour scrabble game and now knowing it was your last game you were gonna play here with us.i hope you are dancing and playing scrabble up in heaven.and i also loved that we were able to listen to your favorite old music.as richie turned it up so so loud.then he came in an hour later and said not use to all this noise and turned it down. barbara i will miss you so much.thank you for being a wonderful sis in law and a wonderful aunt to our 3 children and for being the god fathers wife to our dianna.you both are very special people in our lives.i also saw your mom yesterday she is sad but she is in great hands.i will be going to see again on mothers day.and every other sunday just like i have been.love you barbara rest in peace.

Aunt Babara, Im going to miss you dearly, I know now that you're in a better place and no longer suffering although the thought of not seeing your beautiful face again is tough.. Bill and I have kept Barbara in our prayers for the past 11 years. Bill's Dad married Doreen Kimbley in 1990 making Barbara our step-sister. Bill met Barbara when visiting Tennessee. Unfortunately, we live in California, and couldn't get close to Barbara, but Alan and Retia Desmond always kept us well informed. May she rest in peace, free of pain and suffering. Our deepest Sympathy goes out to Richard and Barbara's family.

My dear friend Barb, I cannot find the words to express my gratitude for the way your sunny disposition has left an lasting impression on my heart.I'm so sorry that you left this earth before you got to see my butterfly garden. So I think I will plant some pretty yellow flowers in the sunniest spot of my garden in your memory because, in life, you always reminded me of a bright, beautiful flower. And although they will eventually fade away, I will be happy whenever I see a lovely butterfly. I know now that you are more like a butterfly than a flower because your strong, beautiful spirit is no longer bound by fragile roots to this humble earth. Fly high and free and please visit my garden often. I will always remember you.

Aunt Barbara- you were such a happy, positive, bright and caring woman. Regardless of your battles with illness, you always had faith and a positive outlook. You would brighten up an entire room when you walked in. I will forever remember you and you will forever shine down on your family and friends. God Bless!

I'll always love you, hate you, agree and disagree with you.  We will always be sisters - no matter where we are!  You are with GOD.  I am with MAN.  I'll join you in a couple of years.

Barbara and Richard, you have both been in my prayers since I heard how serious Barbara's hospitalization was. I lost my mom in October and my dad in November, and I have been praying more than usual. It's always hard for those who are left behind but from the point of view that Barbara now has, it seems as if it will only be moments before all her friends and loved ones join her. It is only us, bounded here by time, who must endure and keep on keeping on. May I suggest that all who have not read this page about Dr. George Ritchie's amazing experience when he died the first time, do so. I first read about his amazing life in the 1970's. We were brought together, when my Dad married Richard's mother in 1990 making Barbara and Richard a part of our family. Barbara was a petite, always happy lady that to meet her, you had to love her. So for the past 11 years, it broke our hearts to know the way she was a prisoner to her disease. We've never seen or heard of a person that controlled her destiny, like Barbara did. She will always be an inspiration to all of us. When Retia told our son, Geoffrey that she had lost her battle with cancer, he told her....Anyone that fought as she did for 11 years, though she died, she did win the fight. She pioneered a way for others to not give up and with her faith, she beat the odds and is now with her lost loved ones, holding her head up high. She will truly be missed.
