On August 29,1931 in the idyllic settlement of Snug Corner, Acklins Island, a baby girl made her entrance into the world. The proud parents, Eckley and Unetha Hanna, named their bundle of joy Calmneeda Eloise Bain.
Their family grew and Calm became a big sister to five younger siblings. She attended The All-Age School in Snug Corner and helped her parents with the younger siblings after school and on the weekends. The younger siblings affectionately called her “Titty”. Calm was taught in her early tears to love and serve God and spent her life in service.
On August 8, 1954, Calmneeda married the love of her life, Norwood Alphonso Bain. A few years after the wedding vows the happy couple moved to Nassau, New Providence. Around the 1960’s Norwood and Calm were happy to find out that they were going to expand their family. They were saddened by the loss of their little Angel at his birth, but they knew God’s will, will be done.
In 1963 Calmneeda suffered the sudden loss of her beloved husband. Once more Calmneeda lean on her faith and trust in God to see her through losing her husband. Calmneeda often referenced her gratitude to Phillip and Sybil Cox in helping her through this difficult time.
Although Calmneeda didn’t give birth to anymore children, she raised and assisted with the upbringing of many children. In 1967 at the advice of her mother Calmneeda adopted her niece, Vanette. Two years later, after the death of her sister, Emma, she adopted her seven-month-old baby, Victor, and helped her mother, Pastor Unetha Hanna, raise Emma’s older children Kathy and Andy. She assisted with the Cox Children and many of her nieces and nephews.
Calmneeda attended The Church of God of Prophecy Minnie Street until 2000 when she became a member of The Church of God of Prophecy in Hollywood. She was a faithful member and could always be counted on for solos.
Calmneeda drew on the training and upbringing of her early years and worked as a housekeeper and in later years as a cook. Her Baked Bread and Johnny Cake were in high demand.
In March 2026 it became apparent that Calmneeda’s health was declining. As someone who never got sick, Calmneeda was unfazed and believe when God was ready for her, he would take her. By April 2026, she was taken to the ER where she spent a week. She was hospitalized once again one week after being discharged. Even in pain she held onto her faith and trust in God. She would sing the hymns I Need Thee Every Hour and It Is Well With My Soul. After her second hospitalization Calmneeda informed her family that she was traveling. When asked where she was traveling to, her response was simply, “to glory”. She comforted her family as they cried. She told them God would take care of them and will never leave them.
On Sunday June 7, 2026, at 10:32 am, Calmneeda transitioned peacefully.
