God's anointed servant, the Carol Evadnie Scarlett was divinely designed by God in heaven and then gifted to Jocelyn Scarlett and Ivett Reid on Thursday, the second day of February 1950, in Amity, Westmoreland, Jamaica West Indies.
At the tender age of 4, she went to live with her Aunt Jul who is credited with transitioning her through her formative years. She attended Saint Leonards School, where after graduating she went to live in Montego Bay to learn shorthand and typing: a true modern-day stenographer. When she was around 15 years old, she moved out of Aunt Jul's home and relocated to Kingston where she spent her young adult years. She lived with her Aunt “C” on Albert Street in Franklin Town. There, Carol was a pharmacy technician in the local pharmacy. She lived in Kingston for approximately 10 years.
In 1973, while visiting her dear friend Melworth, she was introduced to Melworth's brother who she quickly realized was the man of her dreams, the Mr. Jepheth Patterson affectionately called “Daddy”. Daddy quickly became fond of Carol and they started courting. In 1974, Carol and Daddy moved out of Kingston to Montego Bay where Daddy provided a brand new home on Begonia Walk for them to live in. The two welcomed their first child Toney in 1975. On a beautiful day in September of 1978, Carol and Daddy joined hands in holy matrimony when Carol was 7 months pregnant with their second child Shawnette. In 1983 Carol and Daddy went on to having their 3rd child Sheavon.
In January of 1980, Carol landed a job at the Catherine Hall Health Center where she worked for 29 years until she retired in 2010. Though she never held a college degree, she found favor in the eyes of her administrators and was sent to the University of West Indies to complete various courses that involved Community Care of the Elderly and Adolescence Reproductive Health Issues. She used this knowledge to help train doctors and nurses in Community Health.
Carol loved her children and though numerous job opportunities came for her to relocate the United States, she turned them all down to raise her children. She loved them, nurtured them, supported them, bent over backwards for them, defended them, you better not say anything about her children for her to hear: When it came to her children, Carol nursed them, believed in them, encouraged them, disciplined them: she was quite effective in this area and most importantly, raised them to be God-fearing children and she lived an exemplary Christian life for them to emulate.
She was very proud of her children and spoke highly about them, but it was in 2014 when her grandson Michael was born that her attention skewed away from the 3. She loved and protected this child with her dear life. This child stole her heart. She is described by Daddy as classy/sassy, jovial, firm yet tender, humble, trustworthy, loving, giving, good friend, God-fearing, and a true woman of God. Her children describe her as a caring selfless noble human being, she can pop a good joke, loved to laugh, organized, driven, self-motivated, the true definition of a mother, a no-nonsense woman, fashionable: that walk she had would be sure to make your head turn. She taught us the way of the Lord, how to steal away time to pray and read the Word of God: she always told us to get deeper in Christ.
Carol’s most earnest desire was to see her family saved, especially daddy, who she has kept in her prayers for over 4 decades. The Lord heard her prayers and her cry and on April 14, 2019, Carol was a front seat eye witness to seeing Daddy get baptized. She wept in happiness before the presence of Almighty God and thanked Him for allowing her to witness such a spectacular and life-changing moment. To further extend her joy, the Lord continued to favor Carol and on May 11, 2019, He allowed her to witness her eldest son, her strong tower, her rock also get baptized and is currently serving the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
On the afternoon of July 10, 2019, at 12:57 PM, Carol Evadnie Scarlett Patterson completed her earthly assignment and was heavenly assigned to her address in glory.
Missionary Patterson is survived by her children Tony, Lisa, Sheavon; Her grandson, Michael, Jr.; Her sisters Dorothy, Marcia, Judith; brothers, Lincoln, Keith, John and George; her nieces, nephews, wonderful community members, a large church family, and a host of well wishers.
