Clarence was born on June 13th 1965 in Northampton County, Virginia to Joseph Upshur, Jr. & Mozella Matthews (both deceased). As a child he lived briefly in Virginia and Delaware before moving to Bronx New York. Clarence was always on the move. As a teenager, he delivered newspapers, work in a bar, and spent a lot of time hanging out with his friends. He attended Dewitt Clinton High School where he played on the football team, and served briefly in the US Army Reserve where he received an honorable discharge. He worked in security for a number of years before moving to Fort Lauderdale Florida where he continued working in security before changing careers to work for City Furniture. Clarence left high school before graduating but always wanted to obtain his high school diploma. Through hard work and perseverance, he finally achieved his goal and obtain his high school diploma in 2010. An avid sports fan, he loved the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees.
Clarence is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Pamela Matthews, who selflessly and compassionately took care of him through his illness. Two daughters; Octavia Matthews, New Jersey and Mariah Matthews, Florida, and one son Quintin Matthews, Florida. Two sisters; Zena Matthews, North Carolina and Cherie Matthews, Delaware and one brother, Sabastion Matthews (Lionel) , Delaware. Three Sisters in law; Phyllis Green, North Carolina, Hazel Fulton (David) , Florida, and Debra Northe (Roberto) North Carolina . And two brothers-in-law George Green (Tammie) and Norman Green, both of North Carolina. Two God daughters; Aaliyah and Ashley Singh, Florida. Clarence also leaves to mourn two uncles, three aunts, several nieces and nephews, cherished friends and many cousins to cherish his memory.
Clarence will be deeply missed and forever loved.
