Leon’s Professional Career in Jamaica
In February 1991 Leon along with Christopher Kennedy & Colin Carberry-Walters established Air Marine Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Limited in Jamaica. Within a few years the company under Leon’s leadership became one of the leading providers of customs brokerage services to major clients in the Petroleum Industry such as Esso Standard Oil, The Hotel and Tourist Sector such as Super Clubs and Sandals Resorts and was also integral in facilitating the clearance of buses for the government owned bus company JUTC as well as serving other Industry Players in the Food and Motor Vehicle Industry.
Under Leon’s leadership, Air Marine Brokers was the first company to computerize and modernize the electronic processing of customs entries and documents which would set Air Marine Brokers apart from their counterparts. Air Marine Brokers served as a model for the Jamaica Customs department when they decided to automate the customs entry processing system. Leon was also consulted by the then Commissioner of Customs. It was this quest for advancing his skills and knowledge in Computer Systems and Engineering that saw Leon making the move to pursue further studies to become a Microsoft Systems Engineer.
