A Luz le sobreviven sus padres: Mario y Stella, hermanos: Catherine, Adriana y John Mario, sus sobrinas: Melissa, Juliana, Jessica y Liana Luz, sobrinos: Christian, Jahshua y Kayden, tios, tias y primos.
Nació en Cali, Colombia un 7 de Marzo de 1976 con síndrome de down. Se graduó de bachillerato de Bright Horizons en Junio 1998.
Participó como voluntaria en el programa de Goodwill Industries, trabajó en Wendy’s- un restaurante de comida rápida y asistió a dos programas para adultos con discapacidades: Victory Living y ARC de Broward. Desde muy corta edad participó en eventos de las Olimpiadas Especiales ganando muchas medallas y trofeos.
Luz era un miembro activo de la iglesia IPUL Tabernáculo de Vida en Fort Lauderdale. Participó en los campamentos y diferentes actividades. Le encantaba ayudar a otros, colaborar y llenar de alegría y risas a los que la rodeaban.
Sus pasatiempos incluían bailar, cantar, escuchar música, colorear, coleccionar peluches y escribir cartas con muchos corazones a los que ella amaba. La extrañaremos entrañablemente.

Luz Stella Escobar Soto, a long term resident of North Lauderdale passed on August 11, 2022 at 12:10 am after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Luz is survived by her parents: Mario and Stella, siblings: Catherine, Adriana and John, nieces: Melissa, Juliana, Jessica and Liana Luz, nephews: Christian, Jahshua and Kayden and aunts, uncles and cousins. She was born in Cali, Colombia on March 7, 1976 with Down Syndrome. She graduated from Bright Horizons High School in June 1998.
She participated in Goodwill Industries volunteer program, worked for Wendy’s fast food restaurant and participated in adult day programs at Victory Living and Arc of Broward. Since she was a very young child she participated in Special Olympics events winning many medals and trophies at different levels.
Luz was an active member of IPUL Tabernáculo de Vida church in Fort Lauderdale, participated in church camps and different activities. She loved being of service to others, helping and bringing joy to those who surrounded her.
Among her hobbies were dancing, listening to music, writing letters and collecting stuffed animals. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
