I remember Oscar Drepaul. He was my primary school teacher at Alness Primary school around 1956-57. He was my math teacher and always motivated us to think and push ourselves to be better. Today when I look back at people that strongly influenced me to be the person I would become, Oscar is on that list.
One fun memory was he would present the top student with a gift and this really motivated me to be better. As I recalled, I got the gift a couple it times.
It wasn’t so much the value of the gift but the idea hard work will always be rewarded and I thank him for planting that seed in my early years.

Uncle Oscar was very special to me and I will miss him very much. 
Ten years ago, I lost my mother, his older sister.  I was heartbroken and lost for a very long time. Then a few years later, something unexpected and very special happened-I received a friend request from him and we reconnected. 
I loved talking with my uncle Oscar. He was a very kind man, and I especially loved listening to him talk about the old days and the memories he carried with him. He had a way of making me feel special, cared for, and loved. His good-night messages, which he sent almost every night, because something I looked forward to more than he probably knew.  We talked often, and those conversations became precious to me.
I didn't know he was sick, and that makes losing him even harder to understand. 
Uncle Oscar,  I am going to miss you more than words can say. Thank you for finding you way into my life and giving me memories and love that I will carry with me forever. 

Please give my mother a hug for me.

Until we meet again, Uncle Oscar. I love you, and I will never forget you.

Dear Family,

With a heart full of sadness, I share the loss of my beloved father-in-law. Although I was blessed to know him as my father-in-law, over the years he became so much more to me. He was family, someone I loved and respected, and someone whose presence will always hold a special place in my heart.

It is difficult to find the right words to express how much he will be missed. His passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, but I will always cherish the memories, conversations, laughter, and moments we shared.

I am truly grateful that life gave me the opportunity to know him, to be part of his family, and to call him my father-in-law. I will carry his memory with me and continue to honor the love and family bond that he helped create.

To  the entire family, my heart is with you. I know this loss is deeply painful, and I pray that we find strength in each other and comfort in the beautiful memories he left behind.

Being Grandpa’s grandchild was a gift, but being raised by him was a blessing. He had his own unique way of teaching, nurturing, guiding, and loving us—and those lessons will stay with me forever. 

As a mathematics educator, Grandpa was truly a wizard with numbers. You never wanted to be doing your math homework when he was around—because somehow, he always knew the answer! Beyond mathematics, I will always cherish our lengthy conversations, especially the stories and memories he shared about Guyana. Those stories connected us to our family’s history and where we came from.

Grandpa took tremendous pride in his family and celebrated every accomplishment, big or small. And, of course, we could always count on candy, fudge, or a soda whenever he was around—his own sweet way of showing love. Family was at the heart of everything Grandpa did, and at the center of his family was his greatest love, Granny. He loved her unconditionally, and after 62 years together, it brings comfort knowing they are together again.

Grandpa, your legacy is so much more than the lessons you taught in a classroom. You taught us through your wisdom, discipline, stories, humor, and unwavering love for family. I will carry those lessons, your discipline, and the stories of where we came from into the way I raise and guide my own children, August and Cameron. In doing so, a part of you will continue to live through them and every generation that follows.

We gather with heavy hearts to remember and honor Uncle Oscar.
There are moments when words feel too small to express the pain we carry in our hearts.
But even in our grief, we hold on to the promises of God.
The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18 
“The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
And today, we trusted that God is close to every person who is hurting.
His memories, words,laughter and moments we shared with him will remain a part of who we are.
One of my childhood memories were going over by their house and Uncle Oscar cooking.He was the first person I tried pepperpot from.My sisters Shanny and Linny had the privilege of living with Uncle Oscar and his family in Alnise Guyana for a while.
Although our hearts ache because we can no longer see him or hear his voice we can find comfort in the words of John 11:25 where Jesus said,” I am the resurrection and the life.
The one who believes in me will live, even though they die”
This is the hope we have today.
We can be thankful for the years,moments and blessings God allowed us to share with him.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “There is a time for everything,and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
 His time with us was a precious season,and although that season has come to an end, the impact he made on our lives will continue.
And as we say goodbye, we hold tightly to the promise found in Revelation 21:4.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away”.
To Kennedy ,Jr.,Lyn and Billy always remember you guys are his greatest accomplishments and his legacy he leaves behind. 
Until that day they all meet again, may God give this family  strength.
 Comfort their hearts and help them continue forward while carrying the love and memories they shared with their father.
Uncle Oscar may God hold you in Eternal Peace.

Mr. Drepaul and his family were our neighbors in Alness Village. Guyana. He taught with my mom and dad at St Mark's Anglican school where I was a student.  Mr. Drepaul was a dedicated and great  teacher, who always had his student's interests at heart.
