Regine “Queenie” Philippe, at 59, passed away on August 5, 2022, at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Florida. Regine was born in Port-De-Paix Haiti on April 24, 1963, to Ulrick and Marguerite Philippe (Nee Louissaint).
Regine, her father, and her brother immigrated to the United States in April of 1978 to join her mother. She is a graduate of Spring Valley High School and studied at Erasmus Hall Academy in NYC. Regine is a graduate of Brooklyn Community College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, minoring in Communications. Her career in telecommunications spans over 30 years, with her last position being at Florida Atlantic University since 1991.
Regine is an accomplished gospel recording artist who started singing when she was only six years old and taking classical piano classes in Haiti. In 2007 she released her first studio album, Se Gras Bondye, and was working on a second album right before the Covid-19 pandemic, which halted its production.
Not only was Regine an accomplished singer, but she also had an acting career that was just as impressive. In 2017 she played in Puissance de la Foi, in which she was nominated for the best-supporting actress by the Motion Picture Association of Haiti, Inc (MPAH). She also played in Kado Bondye (2017) and Fanmi Kraze Fwayem (2019).
Regine had a strong presence in the Haitian communities throughout the U.S., Haiti, Canada & Europe. She was an advisor to Konbit Kreyol at F.A.U., which is the oldest Haitian student organization in the U.S. She was also an executive board member of the Haitian Empowerment Foundation, which provided scholarships to Haitian students. Regine was a founding and active member of G.R.A.C.E. (God Revealed and Christ Exalted) Community Choir, founded in 2011. G.R.A.C.E. is an inter-church choir led by renowned Haitian choir director, Maestro Pierre Aristil who she has known since 1982 from Nyack, NY.
Although she led such an active life with her singing, acting, and community involvement, the ministry most important to her was her family. She loved all her family members and took time to get to know each of them (although a very big family). Family by birth, church, work and social, she loved them all. She worked hard to provide for her children as she had to step into the role of father and mother for them. She was a great mother, daughter, friend, and mentor who touched the lives of everyone she has come across; especially with that infectious smile of hers. She will truly be missed, but we know she is now with the angels who needed her back.
Regine is predeceased by her father Ulrick Philippe, her brother Dieuseul and her brother Willy. She is survived by her mother Marguerite; her 5 children Patricia, Reginald, Sacha, Gino and Anthony; her sons-in-law Max and Terry; her grandbabies Kensleigh, Kyle, Tyree, Khloe, Milani and Kaylon; her siblings Immacula, Thedly, Junie, Jean-Fresner, Widler and Peter; her life-long friends/siblings Kettely Dede, Bertha Achille and Wendell Charles; her special friend Ralph Cheriza (Rachelle, Anaiah, Gavyn); a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in laws, other relatives and friends. Many families are affected by her passing including Philippe, Louissaint, Belotte, Donnat, Zamor, Toussaint, Guerrier, Noel and Dede Families.
