I’m truly heartbroken over the loss of Sophia. I had the privilege of working with her at Hair Power Salon in Brooklyn, and during that time I got to see so many of the wonderful qualities she had—her kindness, thoughtfulness, helpfulness, loving heart, and her dedication to everything she did.

Sophia, or as I lovingly called her “Debbie,” was also an incredible mother — the kind of mother who poured her entire heart into her children. She raised them with love, patience, and a deep sense of purpose. Watching her with them was like watching love in motion. She guided them with quiet strength, endless compassion, and a fierce, unwavering presence. Seeing how she loved and led as a mother inspired something in me. I began to reflect on the kind of person I wanted to be — someone grounded, nurturing, and strong like her. She didn’t just change her children’s lives; she changed mine too. Because of her, I’ve grown into someone better, and I will carry that part of her with me always.

Her name was Sophia, just like mine — something that always felt like more than coincidence. It felt like a quiet connection between us, a reflection of how deeply she became part of me. Sophia, or Debbie was not just a friend to me. She was my soul sister, my biggest supporter, and the one person I could count on through every high and low. Her presence was like light — soft, steady, and warming everyone who came near her. She had this beautiful way of showing up, of listening without judgment, of helping without needing praise, and of always seeking to grow and become even better — even when she was already the best in my eyes.
She would be the first to say that no one is perfect, but if you knew Debbie, you’d know she came pretty close. Her heart was enormous. She gave so much of herself to others — whether it was a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or a shoulder to cry on. She made time when no one else could. She made people feel seen. And loved. Always loved.
Even in her illness, Debbie was a light. She faced her battle with grace, honesty, and unbelievable strength. She worried more about how others were feeling than about herself. She never stopped trying to lift others up, even when she was fighting her own hardest days. That was who she was — giving, loving, endlessly brave.
There are no words deep or wide enough to capture how much I will miss her. The inside jokes, the long talks, the quiet moments, the encouragements, the laughter, the shared tears. The simple joy of just being with her. My world feels quieter now, a little dimmer, but I know she wouldn’t want me to stay lost in the sadness. She would want me — and all of us — to keep growing, to love hard, to show up for one another, and to carry her light forward in how we live.
Debbie, thank you. For your love. For your wisdom. For being exactly who you were. I will carry your memory with me always — in my choices, in my words, in my heart.

I am still in disbelief. The world has lost an amazing one. Sophia, most of my memories of you are always giggling, joyful and always upbeat. You were a caring and loving mom as well as a wonderful friend. I still have the voicemail you left me less than two months ago where you were checking up on me because I was feeling well. Meanwhile you were fighting your own battle. You were selfless Sophia. You wanted good for everyone around you. With the love you shared and the people you embraced during your short journey on this earth, I want you to know that God is going to make sure that your children receive all the kindness that you have shown to others one hundredfold. I am going to miss you sissy love💗🫂. Im going to miss our little conversations. Im going to miss your voice and your dating advice (LOL) I get it. You don't want me to end up alone, but I am going to be okay. Im going to make sure I live a life that is pleasing to God and one day you and I will reunite in  Heaven.
