From childhood, Teslyn was spirited and outspoken. Teslyn attended Waltham Abbey All - Age School, where she excelled academically. She then attended William Knibb Memorial High School in Falmouth, parish of Trelawny. After successfully completed her high school years, she taught as a Pre-Trained Teacher. Later she attended Canewood Teacher’s College where she received training in teaching methodology. In 1970, Teslyn studied at The Shortwood Teacher’s College a tertiary advanced educational institute. In 1973 Teslyn graduated from Shortwood Teachers College with teaching diploma and taught at the Shortwood Practicing School in Kingston Jamaica. Her desire was to enhance her teaching skills while providing positive exposure to students.
In pursuit of a better life, Teslyn migrated to the United States in 1978. Her intent was to continue her education. She attended Morris Town Community College in Morris Town New Jersey. In search of warmer weather and sunshine, Teslyn relocated to Florida in 1983. She positioned herself in different employment situations to maximize her ability and desire to succeed in life. Teslyn held employment positions in commercial banking and in the health industry. Teslyn was employed at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she passionately took on the role of servanthood. She relished in giving of herself and helping others. Simultaneously while working, Teslyn enrolled in Barry University and earned her Bachelor of Liberal Studies. She continued onto St. Thomas University and earned two Master of Science degrees in education-related studies. Teslyn retired from Jackson Memorial Hospital with twenty years of service and relocated to Palm Bay, Florida.
Teslyn married Joe Takacs in 1986. She was a devoted wife and her delight was in her family. Teslyn lived life to its fullest and loved to travel. Teslyn, Joe, Vahnce and Tamara enjoyed a vibrant social life with others. Teslyn enjoyed entertaining, decorating, gardening, listening music and counseling. Her caring spirit brought joy to so many. She was driven to accomplish her objectives and God’s purpose for her life and so, her involvement with her church was special. Teslyn was an active member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale.
Teslyn resided in Palm Bay, Florida with her husband Joe until the time of her unforeseen medical challenges, which lead to her passing on November 04, 2018 in Miami.
Teslyn is sadly missed by her husband Joe, son Vahnce, daughter Tamara, grandson Liam, mother Daisy, stepdaughters Nadine & Karen, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
