On April 1968, Ada Salazar Mujica de Hernandez courageously left Cuba with her husband and two daughters, leaving behind her family and the life she had always known in search of a better future. With strength and determination she began a new chapter in New Jersey and, despite the many hardships and losses she encountered along the way, she never allowed adversity to diminish her spirit.
A talented and devoted hairdresser, Ada built a life through her own hard work and perseverance. Her profession became not only a means of providing for her daughters, but also a way to support and care for family both here and in Cuba. She was a strong and independent woman who believed in creating a life of dignity, purpose, and love.
Family was at the center of her world. Some of her happiest memories were made in her beauty shop, where she would place a playpen nearby so she could care for her grandchildren while she worked. She never forgot a birthday or Christmas, and she embraced every opportunity to make life special. Born on Halloween, Ada carried that playful spirit with her throughout her life. She would dress up, join in all the festivities, and made sure there was always room for laughter. And of course, anyone who truly knew Ada knew she loved to dance. In time, she was blessed with great-grandchildren, adding yet another generation to the family she loves so deeply.
Ada loved fashion, dressing beautifully, and expressing herself with confidence. In her later years, she was fortunate enough to travel the world, creating memories and experiencing places beyond the life she had once known in Cuba. She lived with curiosity and an appreciation for the joys life had to offer.
Anyone who knew Ada can attest to the remarkable woman she was: strong, courageous, hardworking, independent, compassionate, and deeply loving. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She inspired those around her not simply through her words, but through the way she lived.
Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to live through every generation she touched. We will carry forward her strength, her resilience, her elegance, and her belief that no matter what life brings, we must continue to move forward with our heads held high.
As we gather to honor the transition of her soul, we also entrust her body to its final resting place, bringing peace to her journey and comfort to those who remain. Though we say goodbye to her physical presence, her memory and legacy will remain woven into the lives of her family forever.
We will remember her in the little things she taught us by wearing yellow underwear on the first day of school, mixing various perfumes together, celebrating every occasion, dressing up, laughing, dancing, overcoming every obstacle, and never forgetting the importance of family.
Most of all, we will honor Ada by living as she taught us to live. With dignity, with strength, and with an open heart.
We love you, Ada.
