Born in Ahoskie, North Carolina, Alan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University. As an Industrial Engineer, he first owned and operated his own equipment sales business before building a career as a skilled and respected arborist. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed spending his days outdoors.
Alan found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the water, reading, and riding his bike. He cherished his beloved dog, Abby, and treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren. Whether enjoying a day of boating or gathering with friend’s and family, he was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Grace Covington.
He is survived by his daughter, Erin Metcalf and her husband, Doug; his son, Jacob Covington and his wife, Nicole; his daughter, Sadie Ruiz and her husband, Guillermo; his cherished grandchildren Ava, Emerson, Harper, and Millie; his sister, Joanne Covington Ambrose; and his brothers, Joe P. Covington Jr., Mike A. Covington, and Jeff L. Covington.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Alan’s life at Blount & Curry Funeral Home–Carrollwood, Magnolia Chapel, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Alan’s honor to the Salvation Army or K9 Partners for Patriots.
Alan will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his hardworking spirit, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
