Alan P. Hilton, 68, passed away at home Monday, December 5, 2016. He leaves behind the love of his life, Cynthia Cook; his daughter Keri Hilton; his son and daughter-in-law Peter and Katie Hilton; his triplet grandsons Alan, Brady & Collin Perri, sons of Keri; his grandchildren Morgan and Connor Hilton, daughter and son of Peter and Katie; and Alan’s sister ML Brennan. Alan was born in Brooklyn, NY on St Patrick’s Day, 1948. He grew up in Mahwah, NJ. His father Paul Alan taught him to play baseball and to golf in his youth. He would golf every day during the family’s summer vacations in Windham, NY. He was the captain of his high school baseball team. He graduated from Boston College in 1970. While attending college he played on the BC Eagles baseball team. Alan received his MBA from Iona College. Alan played and managed the Tampa Stars men’s baseball team. He enjoyed playing in the Roy Hobb’s tournaments annually. Alan passed the love of baseball that he inherited from his father to his son, daughter and grandchildren. He happily dedicated his time to coach his son’s Pony League and high school baseball teams, his daughter’s softball teams and most recently the triplet grandson’s baseball teams. Alan celebrated his 50th birthday attending the Red Sox fantasy camp which featured not only Red Sox but also other major league players. He played alongside baseball greats including Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson and Carl Yastrzemski. He won the Carl Yastrzemski “Most Valuable Player” award for his outstanding play at third base. Alan was the proud owner and founder of SunSplash Designs which specialized in imprinted sportswear. His accounts were nationwide and included such licensed logos as ILNY. Alan was a lifelong Superfan of Boston College Sports. He attended two Frozen Four tournaments and cheered the Eagles hockey team to two National Championships. Alan was an avid NY Mets, NY Rangers, and NY Football Giants fan. He was a dedicated fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Lightning. He attended the inaugural games of both Tampa Bay franchises. He collected sports memorabilia from his beloved teams. Alan had a green thumb and his gardens were always in beautiful bloom. His most recent flowerbed was a monarch butterfly habitat. It was while gardening that a beautiful white and brown stray cat walked up and adopted him. He named her Jersey and she became his treasured lap companion. Alan enjoyed playing golf with his baseball teammates and his son. Alan and his son Peter played golf courses throughout the state. They returned to Windham, NY where Alan and his father had played when Alan was young. Alan loved to travel. He and Cyndy, along with their longtime travel companions Mr. Lion and Leona, went many interesting places. They picked out lobsters in Maine, watched snow fall in the Grand Canyon, looked for his name at Cooperstown, and barked with the sea lions in San Diego. He especially loved their yearly trips to St Thomas. He thought Magan’s Bay was the most beautiful beach in the world. His family would like to thank his many caregivers for their compassionate kindness, help and support. The family will receive friends who wish to pay their respects at the Carrollwood Country Club in Tampa between 2pm and 4pm, Saturday, December 17.
