Alice R. Witucki, 93, beloved wife of the late Leonard Walter; dear mother of Ellen (late Henry) Morbach and Leonard; loving grandmother of Brian (Niccole) Morbach and Sarah (David) Malone; proud “GG” of Zoe, Alex, Colin, Quinn and Keira; fond sister of the late Eleanor Wojcicki, the late Evelyn Wiewiora, the late Leonard Rogers and the late Agnes Kouba, passed away October 11, 2021.

Alice was born at home in Chicago in 1928. She was the last child of her parents Stanley and Agnes and was the only one delivered by a doctor, rather than by a midwife. Her family moved to suburban Berwyn shortly after Alice’s birth but had to move back to “the old neighborhood” in Chicago due to the struggles of the Great Depression. She knew Leonard Walter Witucki all her life, and they married in 1947 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Chicago. Her career included working at a soda fountain in a Chicago train station as a teen, then at Metropolitan Bank in Chicago, later at Western Electric in Cicero, IL, and then as the owner of corner grocery stores with Dad. After moving to Florida, Alice worked in a north Tampa doctor’s office, in the offices at Mary Carter Paints and then as a data processing clerk at Monroe, Coleman and Buchanan junior high schools in Tampa. She then moved to the job she loved and retired from in the finance department with the Hillsborough County Public School Board where she proudly found and saved the district tens of thousands of dollars, balancing accounts that had been many thousands of dollars off for years. Alice was a polka aficionada in the 1940s and 50s, proud of her Polish heritage and her Catholic faith.

She was a devoted traveler both here and abroad, and she was proud that she had visited all 50 states (49 of them with Dad), Washington, D.C., and a host of European countries. At Most Holy Redeemer Church, Alice was a member of the Handmaids of Mary, Ministry of Praise and an original member of the Most Holy Redeemer Adult Choir. Alice’s long history of praising God through song began under Sister Patricia, whom she spoke of often, who was both the choir director and organist at St. Leonard Church in Berwyn, Il, in the late 1930s. After retiring, Alice volunteered as a reading tutor at Miles Elementary School, Tampa.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington Street, Suite 310, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481, would be appreciated.

Alice will leave a huge void in this world. I receive great comfort and joy knowing she is finally reunited with the love of her life, "Big Len" as well as all of the great friends she had that passed before her,
