At an early age Annette was baptized at New Progress Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ as Savior.
Annette attended public school in Hillsborough County, her favorite subject was Home Economics as reported by her Hillsborough High School Home Economics teacher, Mrs. Jennings.
She later attended Job Corps Center in Brunswick, Georgia after serving time at the Lowell Correctional Institute, stating that she would never ever again return there. When she returned back to her beloved communities of Palm River, Clair-Mel, College Hill, Ponce de Leon, and Belmont Heights she assisted with the care of her parents, many of young girls and boys, as well as newborn babies, that were in the need of a mother, guardian, or foster parent. She shared her time and resources as well as good home cooked meals for many families in their time of need or sorrow.
She really enjoyed working, her first job started at Singleton Seafood Company Tampa, Florida and later for Del Mari packing company as a grader. she also worked at the Tampa Bay Car auctions and in various other jobs.For many years she could be found serving hot Soul and Caribbean meals around local establishment for the late night club goers.
She enjoyed spending time at her local hair salon and caring for lifetime friends.
Most of all, she enjoyed having the honor of raising Calvin "Smokey" Harris, as her own son; along with Da'kai, Annalise, and Deanna Nash-Jones, to whom, she was known, as Nana.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother: David and Dorothy Smith; stepfather: Deacon Jesse King; and Brother, Phillip Mark Smith Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories three brothers: Wayman (Diane) Milton of Quincy, Florida; Milton (Ceola) Smith, and John Everett Smith; Aunts: Idella Price, and Bessie Peoples of Midway, Florida. The King and Pace families; Henry, Willie and Alonso; as well as a host of cousins and extended family members throughout the area.
Rest in peace big sister and Auntie Annette.
Celebration of Life Service will be take place on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa Florida 33610.The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
