To the family of uncle Bertie:

You were a kind and imposing tall gentleman in the most classic sense. I will always remember going over to your house in Guyana to watch you cook your famous steamed red snapper with the Chinese vegetables. I’m a terrible cook and don’t eat seafood but this memory is is as visceral and strong to this day as the sun feels shining on my face. You shared your culture and love of family through your cooking. I regret not knowing you any better or to have spent more time in your presence. You will live on as part of my happiest childhood memories.

God Bless you and your family,

To Mrs Sheila Man Son Hing, Christopher and Anthony Man Son Hing and family.
My absolute and sincere condolences on the passing of Mr Bertram Man Son Hing. I found him to be a kind and wonderful person from the first time I met him and I know he will surely be missed, but he is not truly gone, just moved from the bonds of this Earth and returned to the creator to live for eternity in love, happiness and bliss. May your memories of him be beautiful, consoling and constant in your hearts.
Gary Singh.

We are heartbroken about Bert. He was a wonderful man and always there for our family. We have fond memories of Bert from our visits together, trips to visit Mother for her birthday and our cruise two years ago.

We will miss his weekly calls asking “watch you’re cooking there?” Every time I (Dolly) made fishcake I always think of Bert. He always said I made the best dhal and fishcake.

Bert, you were one of a kind person. You are loved and will be missed greatly. Rest in peace. Keeping Sheila, Chris, Anthony and their families in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time.

Uncle Bert was the best. You could always count on a laugh with him. I’ll always have good memories of him like the Chinatown days at the Hunan House or getting off the elevator in Queens and smelling his food. Most especially the time he and Aunt Sheila stayed with me on their visit to New York a few years ago.

I’ll miss him asking “what you doing, girl” (in his strong voice) or asking Mom and Dad “how is my big daughter doing?”. Because that is how he treated my sister and I, like daughters. Keeping Aunt Sheila, Chris, Anthony and their families in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Uncle Bert. They don’t make them like you anymore. Love, Mitch
