Betty Lou Brock, born Betty Lou Pittman, passed away peacefully in Tampa, Florida, on May 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 15, 1932, in the family home on Adam’s Creek in the community of Merriman, North Carolina, to Beatrice and Thurman Pittman.
Betty’s greatest joy was being a homemaker and raising her two daughters alongside the love of her life, Lloyd Brock. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, hospitality, and devotion to one another.
She was an incredible cook who loved preparing meals for her family, and her home was always a place of warmth and welcome. She also loved gardening, writing letters, and preserving memories through photo albums filled with family gatherings, friendships, and travels.
Betty worked as a teacher’s aide within the Hillsborough County school system and faithfully served her church communities for many years. She taught adult Sunday school at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gibsonton and later at Lake Carroll Baptist Church in Tampa, where she formed many lasting friendships and touched countless lives through her kindness and steadfast faith.
After Lloyd’s retirement, Betty and Lloyd traveled throughout nearly every state in the country with her sister Shirley and brother-in-law Richard Moore, creating cherished memories and lifelong stories along the way.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice and Thurman Pittman; her husband, Lloyd Brock; her brothers, Murray Pittman and Billy Pittman; and her son-in-law, Tom Stewart.
She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Gregory (Jim) and Carol Stewart; her granddaughters, Meredith McDuffie, Shelby Barrs (Chris), Jessica Loewy (Evan), and Ellen Graham (Robert); her eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley Moore (Richard) and Fran Boswell (Fred); and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Betty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant’s heart, her deep love for her family, and the care and encouragement she extended to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service celebrating Betty’s life will be held on May 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 709 W. Linebaugh Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33612. A reception will follow in Larrick Hall.
