Betty was born March 18, 1927, one of 9 children born to the late Eston and Evelyn Youngblood. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1944, where she played the trumpet in the band. She worked in telecommunications as a switchboard operator at a hotel and in the office of Commercial Carrier before she was married and started a family. Some of her hobbies included sewing, playing violin and piano. One of her favorite hobbies was to go fishing with her family and teaching her children to clean and eat what was caught. Later in life, Betty enjoyed reading the newspaper, learning to crochet, doing puzzles with her friends and spending time with her family. Betty was an AVID Tampa Bay Rays fan – if there was a game on, she made sure she was watching!
Betty was a member of the former Oak Park Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida.
Betty is preceded in death by: Husband, H. R. Royal, seven siblings, and Granddaughter, Veronica Royal.
Betty is survived by: Sister, Virginia Keith; children – Sandra Pereira (Al), Richard Royal (OraBeth) and Ronald Royal; three granddaughters – Teresa, Wyndie, Cecelia; 7 great grandchildren – Tyler, Nikki, Benjamin, Nathan, Chrystine, Serena, Faith; and 3 great-great grandchildren – Mason, Imani, Gabriel.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610. Following the funeral will be the committal service at 2:00 p.m. at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4228 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
