Shortly after, her family moved to Savannah Georgia where she had an idyllic childhood with her sister Flora Blount and many lifelong friends. At the age of 19 she married Ed and promptly became an Army wife. They enjoyed several years in Germany where they started their family with the birth of daughter Catherine Marshall. They loved to travel and explore Europe.
After Ed’s service in the Army, they moved back to the states and she became a GE corporate wife. GE first took them to Rome, Georgia, where son Eddie Summers was born, Auburn, New York, back to Savannah Georgia where daughter Laura Novy was born, St. Petersburg Florida, Hendersonville North Carolina, Richmond, Virginia (her favorite), Houston Texas and finally Tampa Florida where she lived for 36 years.
She was an avid tennis player and played 2 times a week until the age of 77. She loved gardening, cooking, crafting, boating and sports. Aside from all of her children and grandchildren’s games, she was an avid Tampa Bay Bucs fan. Her greatest joy and pride came from her family. She loved the holidays and to host parties at her home for family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband Ed Summers, sister Flora Blount, children Cathy and John Marshall, Eddie and Bridgette Summers, Laura and Gary Novy, Grandsons, Logan Marshall, Nick Novy, Clay Marshall, Rhett Novy, Cole Summers, Brant Summers and many lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Shriners Hospital or St. Jude's Children's Hospital in memory of Betty Summers would be greatly appreciated.
