Brian was born on August 15, 1959, in Pasadena, California, to Carol Morsehead and John Derby. He was raised in Pleasantville, New York, where he developed the strong work ethic, humor, and dependability that would define his life. On November 10, 1984, he married the love of his life, Toni Ann Capozzi, in Ossining, New York, beginning a marriage marked by devotion, partnership, and family.
Brian was a plumber by trade and spent over 35 years working as a facilities director, most notably for Redner Enterprises and Florida Avenue Brewing Company. He took great pride in his work and was known for his reliability, problem-solving skills, and willingness to help anyone in need. If something was broken, Brian fixed it — often quietly, always thoroughly, and usually with a story or a smile.
Above all else, Brian was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He cherished time with his family and found his greatest joy in being “Papa” to his grandchildren, Asher and Grant. His steady presence, generosity, and unwavering support left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Carol Morsehead (John “Poppy” Dovi) and John Derby.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Toni Ann Derby; his children, Amanda Derby and Anthony (and Kadi) Derby; his grandchildren, Asher and Grant Derby; his siblings John (and Jane) Derby, Dianne (and Ron) Trinka, and Christopher Derby; his stepmother Kathleen Derby; his sister-in-law Rita Savino and brother-in-law Michael Capozzi; his nephews and nieces and many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss him deeply.
Brian will be remembered for his kindness, his work ethic, his quiet strength, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. His legacy lives on through his family and all those whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Jan. 18, 2026. Please reach out to the family for details.
