Our beloved mother & grandmother, Burnice Griffin, 84, passed away in the early hours of December 23, 2022. Her children & grandchildren held a bedside vigil during her final hours. Her family is deeply saddened by her sudden death.
Burnice was born on October 26, 1938, in the rural community around Deland, Fl. At the tender age of 10, she lost her father to brain cancer. But she received a gift in the form of a Godly & humble stepfather. After she married, her and her husband moved to “the big city” of Tampa. It was here that she started her family and lived out the rest of her life.
Burnice had many professions throughout her life, starting with Salesclerk in a men’s clothing store, then to banking, onto mortgage processing and retiring in reconciliation of mortgage accounts. In her final years before retiring, her business sent her to many locations across the U.S. Burnice was a force of nature in her business dealings, and no detail ever got past her sharp mind.
Burnice Griffin was a fierce woman – holding fast to her beliefs, defending those she loved, and seeking to better herself and those around her. Anyone who knew her, knew her world was her children, then her grandchildren. Nothing gave her greater joy than to spend time with them.
Burnice was an amazing cook. No one ever left her house hungry. Usually, you were stuffed to the brim! Her guilty pleasure was cooking shows & magazines. She even won some ribbons for competing at the Strawberry Festival. She had a life-long love affair with camping. Many weekends, while the kids were growing up, you would find them all at a campground. She continued to spend the weekend camping after all the kids had grown up.
Burnice is survived by her four children, Crystal Dolcemascolo (husband Bill), Derrik Ryan (wife Debi), Bret Griffin, & Andrew Griffin (wife Claudia); six grandchildren, Andrew Dolcemascolo, Travis Griffin, Trent Griffin, Luke Griffin, Landon Griffin & Isabella Griffin.
A memorial service for Burnice will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. Inurnment to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
