Lamar attended Hillsborough High School where he met Susan Roberson who would become his wife of 56 years. Early on in his college days, he began working as a playground director for Hillsborough County. This experience prompted him to pursue a career involving children. He earned both a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from the University of South Florida.
After dedicating five years to teaching fifth grade, Lamar embarked on a distinguished career in education. He served as an elementary curriculum specialist, and principal at several schools, and played a pivotal role in the opening of Maniscalco Elementary in Lutz. His career culminated as the General Director of Elementary Education for Hillsborough County Schools before his retirement in 2003.
Those who knew him best stated that he was a great mentor to everyone in the field of education, and he often took time, even well after retirement, to assist those who needed advice in their educational careers.
Lamar was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He found joy in traveling, watching the Tampa Bay Rays, and spending quality time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; children, Wes and Allison; and grandchildren, Aeden, Liam, Dylan, and Riley.
Lamar will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
