Charlotte Ball Crosson a/k/a Mammy, went to be with her Lord on August 8. She is survived by her sister, Sharon Cox; her daughters, Connie Urso [Jamie], Carla Nipper [Leon] and Dona Kyle [Curtis]; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews to whom she was like a second mother. Born in Ybor City, she was a lifelong Tampa resident and attended Oak Park Elementary School, Franklin Junior High School, and was a proud graduate of Hillsborough High School.
She retired as the Supervisor of Faculty Services at Hillsborough Community College and began her career there in 1974, starting part time in the bookstore. She served on her high school and junior high school reunion committees and had lifelong friendships with her classmates. She was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church, and Las Damas de Centro Asturiano where she loved to play bingo. As a member of the OWLS, she participated in many of their activities. She loved to play cards with her friends and frequented the casino.
Charlotte was a wonderful mother. At times she worked 2 jobs to provide for her girls, yet still had time to be a chaperone, a coach, Uniform Chair for the King High School band, and team mom for the softball team. She was one of the strongest women anyone could ever meet. She believed in empowering women, and everyone was always welcomed in her home. She raised us to be strong women.
Charlotte was a wonderful mother-in-law. She took in our husbands like they had always been a part of our family.
Charlotte was a wonderful grandmother. From the minute they were born, she was there for her grandchildren. She never missed anything they were doing. Every ball game, cheer competition, and chorus performance, she was there. The great-grandchildren were also very special, and she always attended their events as well.
She was an avid sports fan playing softball herself for many years. She rooted for the Gators and the Dallas Cowboys.
She loved all the Gasparilla festivities, especially the Knight Parade and Sant Yago Coronation Balls getting to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren participating as Debutants, Attendants, Pages, and Crown Bearer to the King.
Charlotte will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her; but the legacy she leaves behind will be with us forever.
