Dan was born on June 11, 1947, in Covington, KY, the fourth of five sons of Volney E. “Stogie” and Anne B. White. He graduated from Bishop Brossart High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. After serving overseas in the United States Army and earning the rank of Captain, Dan returned stateside and earned his MBA from the University of Tampa. Dan worked as a Fuels Coordinator for Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc. until his retirement in 2014. He was also a founding member and instrumental in the growth of the then-new parish of St. Timothy Catholic Church. However, his passion was working with high school students in Youth Ministry. After volunteering in youth ministry for many years, Dan served as the Youth Minister at St. Timothy’s from 1990-2002.
Dan was married in 1969 to the love of his life, Mary, who survives him. Dan is also survived by his brother, Bill (Lucille), of Ft. Thomas, KY; daughter, Joanna (George) of Ballwin, MO; son Stuart (Christine) of Knoxville, TN, and son Edward (Nicole) of Orlando, FL, as well as his nine grandchildren, Daniel, Bennett, Julia, Elizabeth, Mary, Addison, John, Caitlin, and Jack and many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Elizabeth Ann and brothers Tom, John, and Ken.
Anyone who knew Dan knew that he was a lover--of Jesus, golf, corny jokes, Maker’s Mark, Kentucky Wildcat basketball, Hawaiian shirts, sunshine, Bud Light, and a good party. But most of all, he loved his family. He spent 51 years married to “the only true love of my life”. He loved to brag on his wife, kids, and especially his grandkids. He never met a stranger, and his infectious smile and laugh was contagious.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Dan’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 15, 2021, at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lutz, FL. Visitation with the family will be from 10-11 AM, before Mass. Please come dressed colorfully to honor Dan’s wishes. Burial will be at a future date at Lebanon National Cemetery, Lebanon, KY.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood at your local blood bank in Dan’s honor.
