David was born in Cork, Ireland on January 18, 1939, son of David Geaney and Margaret (O’Gorman) Geaney. At 18 years old, David followed his dream and moved from Ireland to Boston, Massachusetts. In 1959, David enlisted in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. During his first assignment to Loring Air Force Base in Maine, he met the love of his life, Teresa McCallan; they married on June 15,1963. Over the next 33 years, David had various assignments throughout the United States and Europe. In addition, David proudly served in Da Nang, Vietnam in 1969-1970. David had a successful and distinguished career with the United States Air Force, retiring at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Upon retirement, he and Teresa settled in Weare, New Hampshire, pursued new hobbies such as woodworking and painting, and became active members in their local church.
David’s strong faith in God helped him face several medical challenges, including pancreatic cancer. His personal experience as a cancer survivor inspired him to help others. David taught himself to use the scroll saw to make delicate and ornate crosses to comfort others diagnosed with cancer. For the next 30 years, David and his wife took requests from people around the world for these crosses. He prayed for each person as he diligently cut and hand polished their crosses. His gracious act of love and faith brought solace to countless patients.
David had an innate curiosity and sense of adventure (he went skydiving at age 78!). He was always quick with a joke or a silly prank, and likely to break into song at the local pub. If you ever needed anything, David would be there to help, generously offering his time, effort, financial support, or simply a shoulder to cry on. In 2023, David and Teresa moved to Arbor Terrace Citrus Park Tampa, Florida where they made many new friends and shared their memories and laughter.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife Teresa. Their marriage of 61 years was filled with love, travel, and family. He was also preceded in death by his parents David and Margaret, and his brothers James and Jeremiah.
David is survived by his three children: daughter Margaret and her husband Robert Felkay; son David and his wife Stefanie; and son Kevin and his wife Lisa. David is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
