Debra Lynn Smith (Kavanaugh), of Spring Hill, FL - formerly a longtime resident of West Palm Beach - passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with pulmonary hypertension. She was surrounded by love, as she always gave it. Debbie is survived by her devoted husband, Edward Smith, daughter, Ashley Bunn, and son-in-law, Heath Bunn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Babette and Curtis Adair, Terry and Stella Kavanaugh, her brother Kevin Kavanaugh, and her mother-in-law Gertrude Smith. Debbie worked in the medical field for over 30 years, specializing in legal (IME) coordination. She was the kind of coworker everyone counted on—deeply knowledgeable, dependable, and always willing to help. She knew every in and out of the office and became the go-to person for questions, guidance, and support. Her presence brought a sense of calm and confidence to those around her. Outside of work, Debbie was pure heart and hospitality. She loved her family and friends more than anything and was the kind of mom who made everyone feel like they were hers, especially Ashley’s friends, who could count on her to show up for their weddings, baby showers, graduations, and milestones, always with a thoughtful gift, as gift giving was her love language, and man was she good at it. She was a truly exceptional mom, loving, dependable, and always there. She showed up for everything, no matter how big or small, and made those around her feel seen, supported, and deeply loved. Her presence was steady, her heart wide open, and she gave her all to being the best mom anyone could ask for. She was as crafty as they come and had a knack for making personalized baskets, decorating for every holiday (home and office alike), and creating warmth wherever she went.
Debbie loved her husband deeply, and the two supported each other with unwavering devotion. She embraced all of his hobbies, especially racing and show cars. She became part of the track family, often cooking for the crews and quietly making sure everyone was cared for. Her food was a comfort to many and a reflection of the love she poured into everything she did. Debbie had a gift for celebrating others and making ordinary moments feel special. Her legacy will live on through every homemade dish, carefully chosen gift, and joyful gathering she inspired. At this time, no services are planned.
In lieu of flowers or other gestures, the family encourages friends and loved ones to plant a tree, flowers, or start a garden in Debbie’s name—something living, rooted, and beautiful, just like she was.
