

McClellan, Dorinda A., Dr. 93 went home to be with her savior Jesus Christ January 26, 2025. She was born in West Plains, Missouri on May 8, 1931 to John and Irene Nunn who predeceased her. She is also predeceased by her husband of 69 years Leslie McClellan, a grandson James Richard (J. R.) Haislop, her sister Charlene Spears of Belton, Texas, Brother-n-law Alfred Brown of Lampasas, Texas and son-in-law John Ritter of Dover.
Her hobbies included piecing quilts and canning. She won ribbons at the fair for her canned peas and peaches. She, with her husband, became County 4-H Youth Development agents. She was a member of the 4-H Club, Girl Scouts, Beta Club, Phi Lambda Theta, Phi Kappa Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Florida State Realtors Association and Tampa Bay Beekeepers Association. She received her Doctorial Degree at the Oklahoma State University. She served as an officer in Delta Kappa Gamma, Florida Community College Reading Association and Western College Reading Association. She presented papers or served on panels or as Chairperson in conventions at the State/National/International Reading Associations. At graduation where she received her Ph.D., she was one of only two students on the President's Honor Roll. Her Doctoral Dissertation was cited in the Buros Mental Measurement Yearbook. The paper was used in preparation of the Atlanta School head Start Program. One of her publications was used in military installations throughout the world. She was a charter faculty member at Hillsborough Community College and two of her syllabi were used in the initial accreditation of the college. She had numerous publications on reading, study skills and creative poetry. She conducted numerous workshops at conferences. She was a subject in Women, men and the doctorate sponsored by the Graduate Record Examination Board. She was listed in Who's Who in Florida in 1973 and in the Biograph of International Educators. She was the first Faculty member to serve as an advisor to the Athletic Department and was Faculty sponsor of the Bar Bender's Club. She was the first HCC Full Professor when she retired in 1995 after teaching there for 27 years. She was a member of the Lake Carroll Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Davis Ritter, of Dover and Patricia Ann Haislop (James) of Odessa: grandchildren Jennifer Endres (Jason) of Virginia, Robert Davis (Cheyenne) of Temple Terrace, Jamie Ann Gordon of Temple Terrace and Christa Dawn Haislop of Odessa; grandchildren Bowen Gabriel Haislop and Zachary Michael Haislop, Julianne Grace Gordon and Micah James Gordon, sister Marilyn Brown, Lampasas Texas, Brother-in-law Terry Spears, Belton, Texas and many nieces and nephews. At her request, there will be no service. Memorials may be sent to Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories. Donations may be sent to St Jude's Children's Hospital or charity of your choice.
