She was a graduate of Middlesboro High School where she was a member of the national Honor Society, the Debating Team, president of her Sophomore Class, and Valedictorian of her graduating class.
After graduating from high school and the National School of Business, she became the Pastor's Assistant at Middlesboro's First Baptist Church, serving seven years.
She moved to Tampa in 1963 and joined the staff of First Baptist Church of downtown Tampa where she served as Assistant to the Senior Pastors. She was also Wedding Coordinator for the church and coordinated 1,003 weddings during her 46 year career at First Baptist.
She also passed the examination to become a Certified Church Secretary and taught training conferences for church secretaries in five states.
Due to health problems, she retired November 1, 2009, after serving 52 years as assistant to 20 pastors and interims in Florida and Kentucky. she holds the honor of being the longest employee in the history of First Baptist Church of Tampa, which was founded in 1859.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Lloyd and Jenny Dalton, sisters; June Dalton and Janet Russell, brothers; Hollis Dalton and Gene Dalton.
A funeral service will be held 10 am, Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in the Culbreath Chapel at First Baptist of Tampa, 302 W Kennedy Ave, Tampa, FL 33606
