Our loving Mother, Dorothy Jean (Smith) Lazzaro, affectionately called “Mom”, “Grammy”, “Aunt Dorothy”, journeyed home to live with her eternal Father, the Lord God, Jesus Christ in Heaven, Saturday, September 2, 2023. Dorothy was accompanied by a beautiful sunrise, rainbow, majestic eagle, and heavenly angel-winged clouds directing her pathway to the Gates of Heaven. Her three special girls held Dorothy’s hand, and gave her endless hugs and kisses, as God allowed her to take care of her family one more time before departing for her eternal Home. That was our Mom, our Grammy, Dorothy. Always taking care of others even until her last earthly breath.
Our Mom is now at peace, vibrant, and can see her family clearly from the heavens. The void in her family’s life will be huge. God brings her family comfort and peace knowing she is healed, forever receiving love like nothing that can be described or felt on this earth.
Dorothy, meaning “gift of God”, was born in Bradenton Florida, on a Monday, November 5, 1934, the loving middle daughter to John Malloy and Iva Jean Smith. She grew up in the Palmetto Beach area, within the city of Tampa. Her alma mater was the original Jefferson High School. She worked for the Hillsborough County Tax Collector and Lake Carroll Day Care. Her main focus was being a devoted military wife to husband Anthony (Tony) Joseph Lazzaro, who she married after graduating high school, and a devoted mother to daughters Toni Lyn Lazzaro-Fitzgerald (Dave) and Traci Jean Jenkins (Jeff).
She is the loving sister to her older brother, Billy and younger sister, Helen. Dorothy’s sister, Helen Malloy Curtiss is her Best Friend. They are united again with their parents. Dorothy loved and doted on her very special Granddaughter, Kaytlyn Louise (Good) Lopez (Peter) and Great Grandchildren, Anthony Jean Lopez and Audrey Marie Lopez. Dorothy loved hearing “Grammy”. Her son-in-law, Dave, was extremely special, becoming her right-hand man after the passing of her husband, Tony, in 1996. She loved her nephew, Brian Malloy Smith, like a son and his wife Karol. She also loved her great-niece, Alexandria Trevor; so special, because Alexandria is her sister Helen’s granddaughter. Dorothy also loved her many pets, treasuring and caring for each one’s special personality. Her kitty, Bella, lovingly took care of her Mommy with sweet meows and soft caresses, never leaving her side.
It must be told that our Mom, Dorothy, was a “foodie”. No one came between Mom and a good steak or hot dog. She could outeat any of us. Mom loved her Saturday lunches at Longhorn, with a special server, Tommy, who pampered her weekly. Mom even met Emeril — Bam! She enjoyed a good mystery like Perry Mason or Columbo and daily Devotionals.
Dorothy was the most giving, generous, caring, and humble person, who loved God with all her heart. She is securely with her Savior and His Angels now. Her family will rejoice when we all reunite again. Dorothy is a “gift of God” and a “child of God”.
Proverbs 31:31
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
The family will be holding a private family service. They appreciate your understanding.
