She was born on October 1, 1930, in Arcadia, Florida, to Leroy and Lela Davidson. She grew up in Bradenton, Florida, where she graduated from Manatee High School.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Tracy Hobson, who passed away in 2017; her parents, Leroy and Lela Davidson; her sister, Geraldine; and her brother, Eugene.
While her three sons were still young and attending elementary school, Earlene returned to college and graduated as a member of the charter class of the University of South Florida. She later earned her master's degree and went on to enjoy a distinguished 30-year career as a teacher and curriculum specialist with Hillsborough
County Public Schools. For a time, she also taught at the University of South Florida, where she had once been a student. Her determination to pursue higher education while raising a young family reflected the perseverance, dedication, and servant-hearted character that defined her life.
Her greatest passion, however, was serving her Lord. Earlene was a longtime member of Lake Carroll Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School
teacher for more than 50 years, sang in the choir, and gladly served wherever she was needed. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ, treasured His Word, and demonstrated her faith through a lifetime of humble service. Earlene is survived by her children:
• Ted Hobson and his wife, Nancy, of Orange Park, Florida • Joe Hobson and his wife, Sharon, of Thonotosassa, Florida • Thomas Hobson and his wife, Emmy, of Tampa, Florida • Tracy Shell and her husband, Donnie, of Dover, Florida. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great source of joy and blessing throughout her life.
Funeral Service will take place at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E LAKE AVE, TAMPA, FL 33610, on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
