Ed grew up in Escanaba, Michigan. As a teenager he joined the Army/Air Force reserves, then went into the service as a Combat Engineer in SAC. They were the first ones in and the last ones out of any given disaster or war. He then transferred over to the Air Force where he spent the rest of his time in the service as a Military Police. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
After being discharged from the service he worked at many odd jobs and decided that being a police officer was his calling. He worked in Tampa with the Sherriff’s department for a while then moved out to Tampa International Airport as a police officer. He started at the old terminal and saw the TIA that is now there come up out of the ground. He served and protected all of us there for 31 years. Ed spent over 41years as a police officer. He loved helping people.
He was a member of Thonotosassa United Methodist Church where he was a Trustee for over 15 years. He loved singing in the Choir. He also had a side hobby which he called “Junking for Jesus.” He would pick up washers, dryers, TV's, AC’s, etc. and turn them in for scrap and put the proceeds into his church. He loved his Lord.
On Jan 8, 2013, Eddie joined TOPStm (Taking off Pounds Sensibly.) Sandi had been a member for a couple of years and had reached her goal weight and he decided it was time to eat healthier. He reached his KOPS goal in 2015. Shortly after he reached his KOPS status he received notification that he had been selected to be “King of Florida” for 2016/2017 and would be crowned in Orlando, Florida at the SRD meeting in July, 2016. He was so proud of this accomplishment. He was the only male in his unit. He continued to keep the pounds off until he passed.
He believed in God and knew that God always watched over him. That was true right up to the end when Ed was having trouble breathing and his A-Fib was out of control he cried out and said “ God help me. God please help me.” Within a short time Eddie was in the loving arms of Jesus.
And so the story goes on, until we meet again in Heaven.
