Garofallou, Elizabeth “Betty”, 98, passed away and went to be with God and her husband of 62 years on October 24, 2021, in Odessa with her family by her side. She was not only a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, but she was considered “Mama” by everyone who knew her. Born in Belfast, Ireland, she was truly an “Irish Mother Superior”, at all of 4 foot 11 and with bright, blue, sparkling eyes. She was a loving, kind spirit to both humans and animals who never lost her optimism and drive to live life. Anyone who knew her also knew that, if the lights were on at the Garofallou house, they could stop by, and Mama would make them a snack or a meal. She is survived by her sons, Paul, Peter, and Robert; and her grandsons, Paul and Patrick, as well as countless “adopted” sons and daughters.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 2-4PM at Blount & Curry Carrollwood Chapel, and a funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021, at 11AM at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Lutz. A burial will be held at the Florida National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the name of Betty Garofallou to St. Francis Society Animal Rescue in Tampa. “We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, Mama.”
