

Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Pool Guyton of Tampa passed away at 88 on September 11, 2023. She was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL (at Pompano's closest hospital) to Robert A. and Marjorie Wylam as the older sister to her brother Bill. Betty Ann graduated from Florida State University with a Major in Education as a member of Delta Zeta and received her Master's in Elementary Supervision from University of South Florida. She moved to Tampa in 1957 and began teaching at Anderson Elementary. Married in 1961 to Robert (Bob), they had two children. Betty Ann had a passion for elementary education teaching in Hillsborough County Schools and at St. Mary's Episcopal Day School. At St. Mary's, she greatly enjoyed teaching third grade and also was Lower School Head, Apple Computer Instructor and initiated/served as Development Officer. Betty Ann was passionate about supporting the Tampa Bay community serving as President-Tampa Junior Woman's Club, President-Rotary Anns of Ybor City, President-Guilders of Tampa Bay Art Center (charter member), Tampa Symphony Guild (charter member), Tampa Philharmonic Women's League Education Committee Chairman, Easter Seals Guild, YWCA- Chaired Y-Teen Committee, Publicist for Girls Club of Tampa, Friends of The Arts, Las Damas de Arts, Officer-Dana Shores Woman's Club, Officer-Culbreath Bayou Garden Club, and Girl Scout and Brownie Leader. She is a former member of Tampa Yacht and Country Club, enjoying tennis and sailing with the Mainsheet Mamas. Betty Ann was a member of Hyde Park Methodist Church, assisting as a Sunday School teacher, and also attended Palma Ceia Methodist Church. In her later years, she was a member of Rose Circle Garden Club, part of the Tampa Federation of Garden Club Circles (Tampa Garden Club), where she volunteered on many committees and was most proud of serving for years as Parliamentarian. As a gourmet cook, Betty Ann helped create numerous cookbooks for many organizations, including Florida's Young Presidents Organization, Florida Cattlemen's Association, Florida Gulf Ridge Council Boy Scouts of America, Rose Circle, Culbreath Bayou Garden Club and Hyde Park Methodist Church. She was also known for her herb/ vegetable gardens at home and St. Mary's, strawberry preserves and pepper jelly, saltwater aquariums created directly from Tampa Bay, and hosting Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla parties having prepared all the hors d'oeuvres herself. Betty Ann is survived by her children, Robert Jr. (Sherry) and Ginny Collier (Chase); grandchildren, Robert III and Avery. A memorial service will be held at Garden of Memories Chapel of Light, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, on Sunday, November 19 at 1 pm.
