He was the kind of man people instinctively trusted. Strong enough to lift a car when needed, he was even stronger in the quieter ways that mattered more: he carried the burdens of the people he loved, showed up without being asked, and never turned away from someone in need. Family came first—always. He would do anything for them. He tried to do right by others, and people knew they could count on him. Fear never seemed to stop him. The legacy he left is one of compassion, resilience, and a giving heart.
Born August 28, 1948, Emery spent his life as a steady presence for those around him. He raised two children, Barry Powers and Jillian Boria, with his former wife of 46 years, Denise Powers. In his later years he shared life with his wife Linda Powers, building lasting relationships with her children and becoming a devoted grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Powers; his children Barry Powers (Malia) and Jillian Boria (Michael); his grandchildren Michael “Trip” Boria, Emi Boria, Falcon Powers, Finley Powers; and by the children with whom he reconnected later in life. He is also remembered by the extended family and many friends who relied on his quiet strength and open hand.
Emery’s life was defined less by titles or accomplishments than by the simple, consistent way he treated people. He helped when help was needed. He stood firm when others wavered. And he loved his family without limit. That is how he will be remembered.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa, from 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm. Remarks and Reflections will begin at 2:00 pm. Emery will be laid to rest at Garden of Memories cemetery at 3:00 pm.
