Obituary of Estrella Amper Gianan
Estrella "Esther" Gianan, 84, of Tampa, Florida joined the Lord on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at home. Esther was born in Ubay, Bohol, Philippines to Abundio Amper and Valeria Felicitas on July 23, 1938. She was the fourth daughter of five children. Esther was considered the "Socialite" of the family. Stood out as always being dressed up and wearing makeup which she still did on a daily basis. She attended Holy Name College in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. She received her BSN at Southern Islands Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. Despite hearing stories about Al Capone she was determined to go to Chicago under the Nursing Exchange Program at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She met Rogelio (Roger) Gianan in Spring of 1965 in Toronto, Canada and married on September 25, 1965. They gave birth to two beautiful daughters. Karen was born in New York and Jennifer was born in New Jersey. In 1969, they moved to Chicago, Illinois and then Downers Grove, IL where Esther continued to work as a nurse at Cook County Hospital. Her favorite color was yellow and Roger bought her first yellow Buick Sedan. Tired of the Chicago blizzards, warmer weather led the family to Tampa in 1980. Roger and Esther were founding members of the following organizations: PCFI: Philippine Cultural Foundation Inc; AKBF: Ang Kaliwat Bolanon sa Florida; ABF: Ang Bisayan of Florida, Inc; BASF: Bicol Association of Southern Florida; PAAT: Philippine American Association of Tampa Bay Inc; PAPAG: Philippine American Political Aggregation Group Inc; PNA: Philippine Nurses Association of Tampa Bay; PPAC: Philippine Performing Arts Company Inc. A cradle Catholic, she was also a Prayer warrior, attended bible study and rosary group. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years ending her career at the James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital in Tampa. Nursing was her job but her real love was her family. Esther loved being the taxi Grandma driver for her five grandchildren. Esther is preceded in death by her husband Roger Gianan and siblings Saturnia Langamin and Teresita Marigomen and spouse Johnny Marigomen. Esther is survived by her daughters Karen and husband Dan Consuegra, Jennifer and husband Jun Chung; by her grandchildren Stephen Consuegra, R.C. Consuegra, Julia Consuegra and her partner Andrew Solgot, Jack Consuegra, and David Consuegra; by her great grandchild Breeze Solgot; by her sister Januaria Miel, brother Abundio Amper and spouse Fortunata and brother-in-law Eduardo Langamin; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and relatives around the world. At the services, we request the color yellow be worn as that was her favorite color. A visitation for Estrella will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2023 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. A prayer service will occur at 5 p.m. and a solemn service at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
