Eva Negrón Pizarro, vibrant and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died on December 29, 2019 at the age of 83 in her home city of Tampa after successfully battling pancreatic cancer for nearly two years.
She is survived by her adoring husband of 55 years, Pedro J. Pizarro; her children Eva Milan (Pizarro) and Pedro J. Pizarro; her children-in-law Eric Milan and Monica Kohler; and her grandchildren Anthony and Kaylee Milan, and Alana and Gabriel Pizarro.
Eva was born on November 9, 1936, in her beloved beach town of Cataño, Puerto Rico, to Evaristo Negrón and Cecilia Figueroa. While working at a bank in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she met her future husband Pedro, and they married on August 22, 1964. She spent her kids’ earlier years caring for them at home, then transitioned to part-time work as an assistant at their school. The family relocated to Tampa briefly and then Miami in 1979, then moved permanently back to their current home in the Carrollwood area of Tampa in 1984. Eva continued working as an assistant at local schools until her retirement from Plant High School in 2005, and enjoyed running into the many former students who cheerfully greeted “Mrs. Pizarro!” any time she was out on the town.
Eva cherished her church family at Grace Lutheran Church, sharing her faith as well as her love of conversation with all her friends during coffee hour(s!) after services. An amazing cook of her kids’ favorite Puerto Rican dishes, she also enjoyed going out to many restaurants with her family and friends, and was an unabashed fan of time strolling around Walt Disney World. Eva loved laughing, ruled her roost, had a knack for finding herself in hilarious situations, and knew how to find humor and light in herself and the world around her. She never lived more than ten miles from a beach, so it was no surprise that her final wishes including the following request for scattering her ashes: “I grew up in a tiny town next to the beach, so---maybe at the beach with my close family in charge of a short religious prayer!”
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 17 at 2:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 3714 W. Linebaugh Avenue, Tampa, FL.
