Geneva Hingson Shirley passed away on May 3, 2023 at Meridian of Brandon ALF, under the care of Hospice. Geneva was born in Kathleen, Florida in 1932, daughter of Grace Benton and Vernon C Hingson. She graduated from Jefferson High School, Class of 1950, then attended Brewster Business School. She used the skills learned there in her career as a medical records transcriptionist and insurance billing coordinator, working for Dr.’s Mezrah, Metts and Cohen, as well as Dr. Paul Jones in Brandon.
She loved her hobbies- gardening, cooking, reading and even took piano lessons later in life. However, her favorite hobby was being Mimi to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always made holidays special for them, and her house was their favorite place to be! Traditions she started with them will remain in their memories forever.
She was predeceased in 2021 by her husband of 70 years, Donald P Shirley. She is survived by her Sister-in-law Susan Shirley Simpson, daughter, Donna Shirley Adams (John), and son Martin B. Shirley (Jill). She was the best Mimi to her six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren-Brett Shirley (Diana)(Madelyn), Craig Shirley (Amanda) (Eli, Mason and Henry), Doug Adams (Elianie) (Ava), Kayla Adams Livingston (Zack) (Freeman, Fletcher and Ford), Brandon Shirley (Nancy), Breanna Shirley Williams (David) (Joseph, Jaiden, Jaxon). She felt so blessed to have frequent visits from all of them.
She also is survived by three very special longtime friends (The Ya’ya’s)-Kaia Elam, Claudia Woodhouse, and Anna Jean Springer, who she spent many hours visiting, chatting and lunching with.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Meridian of Brandon for the love and care they bestowed upon her over the last year, we could not have asked for more.
Geneva will be laid to rest Saturday at Garden of Memories in a private family graveside service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Lifepath Hospice-Purple Team, in thanks for their care in her final days.
