Smith, Geneva “Brownie”, 88, a loyal servant of Christ, passed away Jan. 16, 2021. She was a homemaker, Bible class teacher, bookkeeper and published author, but her greatest mission was serving others as a preacher’s wife for 68 years, in churches of Christ all over the U.S., most recently at Nebraska Ave. She and husband J.T. also sang together in a gospel quartet on the radio in the 1960s, and she instilled her love of singing in her daughters. She is fondly remembered by her family for her delicious homemade cakes, mischievous sense of humor and her killer sense of style. Her daughters feel extremely blessed to have had her fierce love and protection, and will always admire the example she set as a “steel magnolia” – a beautifully soft exterior with an inner resolve of iron. Her dedication to living a life that serves God (whom she most often called “the Good Father”) was an inspiration that influenced the lives of many.
She is survived by daughters, Judy Johnson, Joy Beaumont (Mike), Patti Lucchesi (Rick), and Debbie Cleveland (Brett); grandchildren, Tara Williams, Jeffry Hammond (Carrie), David Rakita (Jenny Wong), Josh Allen (Kristin), Jordan Rakita (Kayla), and Jenny Allen; great-grandchildren, Jaylin, Ruby, Milo, Mireya, Andre, Gianna, JoeJoe and Faith.
A funeral service will take place at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home located at 3207 Bearss Ave. Tampa, FL. 33618. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
Tennessee visitation and service will be Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 2:00-3:00 CST at Whitson Funeral Home, 30 N. Dixie Avenue, Cookeville, TN 38501 with interment to follow at Smyrna Cemetery.
