Gil was born on December 24, 1944 in Tampa, Florida to Fernando and Ygnacia Carreras. He is a graduate of Jesuit High School, Class of 1962. On July 4, 1965 married Sheila “Perez” Carreras at St. Joseph Church in Tampa. In 1968, he joined the United States Air Force and after 20 years, retired as a Lt. Colonel in Tampa. Gil will be remembered for his devotion to his family, generosity, love of his pets, and his patriotism.
Gil is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Sheila; his sons David (Wendi) and Keven; his 3 grandchildren, Kristina, Rylee, and Emilee; many caring nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 22th at Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel from 10am to 12pm and a memorial service will be held Bay Pines National Cemetery which will begin at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Atlas Assistance Dogs and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
