Glenda K Melching

Glenda, affectionately known as “Mema,” was born on December 5, 1942, to Al and Ruby Whilden. She attended Hillsborough High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1960. It was at the Hillsborough High annual Terrier Bark that she met the love of her life, Ted. They were married on June 17, 1961, and shared 61 wonderful years together.

Glenda worked as a secretary for Air Cargo/Air Freight before choosing her favorite occupation of all—being a mother. She devoted herself to her family and often volunteered at her grandchildren’s school. Her dedication and loving spirit earned her the honor of Volunteer of the Year at Denham Oaks Elementary.

Her greatest pride and joy were her four children, 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with her family and especially loved traveling together. Fort Wilderness at Walt Disney World and Maggie Valley, North Carolina, were among her favorite places to make treasured family memories.

Glenda was a stranger to no one. Her warm smile could light up a room, and she had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. In her later years, she continued sharing that gift by volunteering as a greeter at Creekside Church and sending cards of encouragement to others.

Glenda loved Jesus and was never shy about sharing her faith. She could often be heard singing her favorite song, “God Is So Good.” Her faith, kindness, and love for others were a beautiful reflection of the life she lived.

Glenda was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Ted; her parents, Al and Ruby; and her sister, Sherry.

She is survived by her four children, Charlene (Stephen), Suzanne (David), Ted III (Dolores), and Kimberly (Jerome); 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly and her beloved dog Maggie.

A private graveside service for family will be held.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Creekside Church for all her friends whose lives she touched, located at 311 Newberger Road, Lutz, FL 33549. Please dress casually and comfortably.

Glenda leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, kindness, and family. She was deeply loved, and her beautiful smile and loving spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
