3/18/1929 – 1/1/2023
We regret to announce the passing on January 1 of Gloria Gagnon Doyle Nellen, age 93, of Tampa, Florida. Gloria had been struggling with health issues for the last few years, but passed away peacefully while with family. We are glad that she is no longer in pain and pray that she is at peace with her heavenly Father and departed friends and family.
Gloria was born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts and graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School. She attended Barry University in Miami, Florida. In 1952 she married Richard Doyle, and they raised five children in Miami. She married Bob Nellen in 1982 and gained three more adult children and multiple grandchildren. Gloria always made everyone feel welcome in her home, and family and friends spent many hours visiting around her kitchen table. For over 30 years she worked at the McGlannan School in Miami until retiring at age 74. In between raising children and working full time, Gloria enjoyed playing cards with her bridge club, playing her piano, and dancing. As a lifelong Catholic, she was a woman of strong faith who lived her beliefs in a quiet and unassuming manner through her kindness and compassion to others. Gloria has lived at Arbor Terrace Citrus Park in Tampa for the past three years.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Oscar Gagnon Sr. and Blanche Rich Gagnon, brothers Oscar Gagnon Jr., Guy Gagnon, Rene Gagnon, ex-husband Richard Doyle, husband Robert Nellen, and partner Bill Coffey.
Gloria is survived by her children Mark Doyle (Nora) of Duluth, GA, Dawn Torcivia (Bob) of Statham, GA, Joy Rumenik (Rocky) of Tampa, FL, Scott Doyle (Liz) of Sharpsburg, GA, and Craig Doyle (Julie) of Jacksonville, FL, stepchildren Pat Frigo (Jim) of Miami, FL, Carol Morin (Rick) of Jacksonville, FL, Tom Nellen of Miami, FL, 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was known as Mom, Memere, Grandma, and Nana.
Gloria was an incredibly strong, loving, and kind woman who was devoted to her family. As a mother, she was simply the best. Our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. She raised five children and was our biggest cheerleader and our constant supporter. We would not be where we are today if we did not have her as our mother.
Gloria was truly a living example of how to live life to the fullest which was evident from her large extended family and her many friends. We will all miss her. She will leave a vacuum in many lives but leaves us with an abundance of love, joy, and beautiful memories. As we all continue our own journey, we will always be grateful for the time she shared with us and will endeavor to pass along her kind and loving spirit to others along the way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name.
A celebration of life will be held on her birthday, March 18, 2023 at 11am at Blount and Curry Carrollwood Funeral Home located at 3207 W. Bearss Ave. Tampa, FL. 33618. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
