

Gordon was born in Batavia, New York, to Katherine E. Pope and Claude E. Tyler on March 30, 1946. He moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1952. He played basketball and baseball, was the catcher for Manatee High the year they won the state baseball championship in 1963, and graduated from Manatee High School in 1964. On June 6, 1970, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He was employed as a social studies teacher, athletic director, and head football coach at a junior high school outside of Atlanta, Georgia. He was a regional manager for ten years receiving numerous trips and awards for his leadership, training, and sales with Safety-Kleen Systems, an international corporation dealing in hazardous waste and fluid recovery. He was an entrepreneur, owner, and operator of ReLyt Inc., a delivery company for office supplies and furniture. After retiring, Gordon married Deborah S. Scarbrough on May 19, 2007, in Lutz, Florida. He moved to Land O’Lakes in 2014, and was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church for 15 years. He enjoyed reading, playing golf, traveling, assembling puzzles and framing them into pictures, and spending time with family and friends.
Gordon is preceded in death by parents Claude E. and Katherine E. Tyler of Bradenton, Florida and brother Claude E. Tyler, Jr. of Bradenton, Florida. He is survived by his wife Deborah, his son Timothy Tyler (Michelle) of Fleming Isle, Florida, his step-daughter Tracy Morrison (Paul) of Duncan, South Carolina, and his step-son Michael Davis (Kristin) of Wesley Chapel, Florida, his sister Vera Willis of Bradenton, Florida, his grandchildren Brycen Morrison, Jaedyn Davis, Brynne Morrison, and Brooke Morrison, niece Darby Kelly (John) of Parker, Colorado, nephew Gary Golby (Kara) of Jacksonville, Florida, and survived by the mother of his son, Timothy, former spouse, Nancy Tyler of Bradenton, Florida.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Boulevard., Lutz, Florida 33548.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Idlewild Baptist Church with Senior Pastor Ken Whitten of Idlewild Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are provided by Blount & Curry Funeral Home-Carrollwood.
